This decision is up to the parent, doctor, or orthotist. An impression kit is not required and most customers enjoy good results using measurements only.
Processing an impression kit will add 1-2 days to your order processing time.
What is your return policy?
Returns are handled on a case-by-case basis. Please refer to the replacement/returns policy card sent with your order and contact us for a Return Authorization Number before returning any items. Refunds may take up to 4 weeks upon receipt to process. You may also view the policy card here: in English.
Our AFO has a soft inner lining and a soft synthetic leather body which increase comfort. When the child is in pain or uncomfortable, the parent may remove the brace, which contributes to relapse. Compliance has been shown to increase with the use of our brace. (letter from Dr. Ponseti and POSNA Brace Adherence Paper)
Viewing holes at the heel allow the parent to easily check if the heel is still in place and re-adjust the brace if necessary.
Our patented Quick Clip attachments on the bar contribute to the donning of the AFO. The AFOs may be put on the patient first, then clicked on to the bar. This increases ease of clothing changes or placing the child in a highchair or shopping cart.
The Ponseti AFO / Mitchell Brace was designed with the buckles set to the inside of the foot. This design feature is to aid parents in the donning and doffing of the shoes.

Place the foot into the shoe, bend the child’s knee and push down slightly to make sure the heel is seated and then press gently on the top of the foot (where the leg meets the foot) with your thumb, to make sure that the foot is all the way in, and tighten the middle strap first. The strap helps keep the heel firmly down into the shoe.

On average, a pair of shoes will last 4-6 months. Some children grow rapidly and will need a pair within 3 months. As the patient’s growth rate slows, more time can be expected from each pair of shoes.
The bars are adjustable and should last approximately 2-3 pairs of shoes. The bar width should be periodically checked and adjusted to match the patient’s shoulder width or as recommended by your physician or orthotist.
The three lengths of the bars are: Extra Short- 17.3-25.0 cm; Short- 20.0-30.0 cm; and Long- 23.5-37.8 cm. Our ‘Preemie’ size shoes are attached to a different type of bar, and can be adjusted from 15.0-20.0 cm.

-Date product received (if known)
-If a broken shoe: description of the broken component, size of shoe, left or right (buckles to the inside of the foot), and lot number. You can find this information on the tag inside the shoe (pull down the white insole). The bottom line of the tag is ‘Size’ along with an L or R and a number, followed by ‘Lot Number’ along with a series of letters and numbers.
-If a broken bar: describe the broken component, size (if known).
